故事发生在近代列强侵略、社会变革动荡的大环境之下，商务印书馆在张元济先生主持下，发展成国内首屈一指的现代化印刷企业。 19世纪30年代，张元济高价争购八册古籍珍本，争购失败的日本文人中岛一郎，为报复投靠日本间谍机关，最终炸毁了商务馆。书馆虽然毁了，但中华文化不绝，中华民族精神永存。。Joe Bell is a penny-pinching hermit saving for the day when his real life will begin. One day he's offered a chest filled with treasure by a cryptic old man known as, "The Clockmaker." After giving the chest to Joe, the Clockmaker "accidentally" locks the chest.
